Bistable solenoids

Bistable solenoids have two stable end positions which are maintained without current. Between the two end positions switching is effected with a current impulse of varying polarity.

In contrast to standard linear solenoids bistable solenoids feature three characteristic forces:

  • pull-in force (as with standard linear solenoids)
  • holding force with armature in fully home position
  • holding force with armature at start position

Bi-Stable solenoids are generally small, with strokes of up to 4mm and a maximum force of 9N. There are three models BI8, BI13 and BI17 in the Kuhnke bi-stable range.
